The Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act, 2018 is a federal law enacted to prevent and combat trafficking in persons, particularly women and children, and to provide a framework for the protection of victims and prosecution of offenders. The Act defines trafficking to include acts such as recruitment, transportation, or harbouring of persons through force, fraud, or coercion for purposes including compelled labour, sexual exploitation, or organized beggary. It also provides for enhanced penalties in aggravated circumstances, establishes mechanisms for investigation and trial, and includes measures for victim protection, compensation, and awareness to address the root causes of trafficking.
