7.6 Protecting Child Witness Identity and Privacy

Police must ensure:

  • names and addresses are not disclosed publicly
  • case files are handled confidentially
  • media is not given identifying details
  • photographs are not exposed

Under the Anti-Rape Act, 2021 and general legal principles:

✔ courts may hold in-camera hearings
✔ judges may allow screens, separate rooms, or video-link
✔ humiliating cross-examination is prohibited

Police must support these arrangements.
