7.3 Principles That Must Guide All Police Actions

Police must always ensure that:

• the child’s safety and dignity come first
• the child is protected from intimidation, threats or retaliation
• interviews are child-friendly and respectful
• confidentiality is maintained
• no pressure, threats or inducements are used
• only necessary interviews are conducted
