5.1 Standard Response Framework 

For every form of violence or exploitation covered in this chapter, police must follow these core steps:

• Ensure the immediate safety of the child
• Treat the child with dignity, respect and sensitivity
• Identify the correct legal framework
• Take prompt lawful action
• Refer the child to appropriate protection services
• Document actions clearly and accurately

Guiding Principle

Protection first. Investigation second. Accountability for offenders, never children.
